PEACE

To many, peace means different things. To a fascist dictator, peace could mean ridding the world of Jews. To a Buddhist monk, it could mean an inner peace and understanding. But to fully comprehend what peace is, we have to begin to grasp what sort of world that we live in and why peace is such a dramatic idea in it.

Take a look at the news, we always hear stories of violence; death; deals' winners and losers; disaster; devastation.

But let's look beyond that for a second. We have all been lost at least once in our lives and not just in the physical sense, but in the mental state of it. We've all felt that desperate sense of hopelessness. But even after you've stopped being lost, have you really been found? Found in a faith? Found in a state of being? Or have you just accepted what is in front of you and when about on your jolly way?

Peace is such a dramatic thing in this world simply because it has never happened before. Never have all the communities of Earth been united with a common goal of peace.

Back to the events of a nightly news program. Why do all these horrible things happen? Some may protest it is the devil at work. Others put forth that it is merely a fact of life. I beg to differ on both accounts; it is done in accordance with human nature.

Look at the nature of humans over time, such as the Egyptians back in early 3000's BCE. They used violence and religion to get what they wanted: an orderly society, workers that need not be paid, and monuments of their great accomplishments. Just like every evolutionary track in the history of the Earth, the Egyptians only had one thing in mind-- furthering their civilization and themselves. And like most humans today, they wanted to leave some imprint on the world so they would be remembered, whether it be good or bad.

That's all humans have cared about for their entire existence, themselves and the mark they leave on this world.

It's the human nature to do so. It's the nature of our molecules to do so. But look at how far we've come on Earth, from Neolithic cavemen, we evolved to make everything from buildings over 800 meters tall to tiny computer chips that can carry a million memories. Don't you think by now that we would have evolved our human nature to become more peaceful and symbiotic with each other?

Well we haven't and without serious changes made, we won't.

So to summarize- peace, in this sense, is all humans living together in a world without war, violence, hate, or hunger. It has been unattainable in the past because of the human and evolutionary nature.

However, with the human brain and our species as advanced as it's become, we, for the first time, have the chance to change our human nature into life, love, and peace.

PEACE- now ain't that something?
